Take 3: Religiosity
Once upon a South Park episode, the devil declared that Saddam Hussein and he were going to rule the world. Crazy? Maybe. Tongue in cheek? Likely so. Of course, to any rational mind, this is humor at its basest level.
Well, since the devil can only exist in the mind that believes the farce that is religion, a concept which again plays on the basest human desire of good overcoming evil. However, a closer look into who is good and evil in Christian theology reveals a lot more about the devious and malevolent personality of this religion.
Christians will often shoot down Islam (figuratively and in real life, especially in the western world) as being the bastard child of religions. Christianity in the United States has been appropriated by the evangelical religious right as a bulwark of the truly insane concept of "American exceptionalism."
As if Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Canada, Columbia, among other nations are not either American, nor exceptional.
However, bullshit seems to be the obvious substance coating western Christianity. Literal Nazis have taken up the mantle of "Christianity" and claimed it to be proof of the superiority of "western civilization" above all else across the globe. Christianity in the evangelical right invokes crosses (nothing special there), guns, the confederate flag, more guns, racism, conspiracy, and more related bullshit.
While evangelical Christianity bears a distinct difference from other aspects of global Christianity, such as the evangelical association with Christianity as being fundamental to one's bearing as an American (Christian nationalism), the base ideals are similar. Evangelicals are single issue voters across most of the world.
In Africa, which is an overwhelmingly religious continent, Islam and Christianity have shaped national policy all across the continent. In some African countries, one could end up on the wrong side of the gallows (or stones) for the mere insinuation that they are gay. Abortion and contraception are also verboten in some countries where Catholicism reigns supreme. In Honduras, emergency contraception is actually illegal (seriously), but, of course, corruption isn't?
The sole purpose of religions today seems to be an attempt to control women and mold them into docile members of a majority patriarchal society. In other words, religion promotes social repression. This seems to borrow loosely from some biblical verses that impose the authority of men over women.
1 Timothy 2:11-14:
"A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be quiet. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.”
1 Corinthians 14:34:
Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says.
Genesis 3:16:
To the woman he said, "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you."
Judges 29
The woman is a concubine, who is cast repeatedly in the role of silent subject, without agency. She is offered up by a man to other men. She is cut into pieces, and circulated, so that... as it plays out... more women are taken violently to serve men.
Numbers 31:17-18
Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.
But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.
Of course, context is key as the cliché goes, but, in whichever context one views such drivel with, the results are identical. Evangelicals worst enemy, of course, was one Barry Obama. He is blamed for "legalizing homosexual sin," among other insane conspiracies that are surely unmentionable in sane circles. Then 45 lost the election to Joe Burden and evangelical leaders absolutely lost their minds. Some of these may have actually driven some of their fanatical following to participate in the madness that was the insurrection in the capital.
They actually started praying for victory after the bloody election was over and done with!
If one would assume Saudi Arabia as the mother of all intolerance; it can be inferred that if these evangelicals were in power (not forgetting the angels from Africa summoned by Paula White), the United States wouldn't be that much different. Also, despite one Kenneth Copeland's moronic laughter, Joe Biden actually is president.
